Re: oil for pneumatic spearguns???

Yes. You can use castor oil or mineral oil. At least in the US mineral oil is much cheaper. The idea is to use as pure oil as possible so it would not affect o-rings and would maintain the same viscosity over the working range of temperature. Both castor and mineral oil satisfy these requirements. They are recommended for internal consumption as stomach remedies. I use mineral oil in my Mares Cyrano. My father has been using castor oil in his gun for at least thirty years.

Hope this helps.

I have been recommend here to use 5W motorcycle fork oil. Never tried though.

Re: oil for pneumatic spearguns???

Yep, the motorcycle fork oil works very well and is cheaper. Dont put much, tough. It depends on the size of the gun. If it is "a little" gun (30 cm), use just 10 cc; for a 40 cm 15 cc; and for a 55 cm 20 cc. The only use for the oil is to lubricate the internal parts. For the same reason, it is convenient to hang your gun with the barrel pointing down, to lubricate the piston which is the most critical part and the most likely to get "stuck" when not used frequently. Once in a while you change the position, to lubricate the trigger mechanism and the valve, but after a day or so put the barrel pointing down again. Good luck.

Re: oil for pneumatic spearguns???

I used Mares oil that I bought in a diving shop - it works for all of my pneumatic guns (I have three) well so far

Re: oil for pneumatic spearguns???

The reason for the oil is 3 fold 1. to lube moving parts(piston release mech) 2. to create a seal on O Rings and piston 3rd. to line the barrel after each shot with a thin film to eliminate corrosion as the barrel floods after loading unless you are a MAMBA.
