Kayaking for WSB

This may be more of a California question, but here goes:

Any tips for hunting White Sea Bass? I know that my local grounds (Northern LA Co.) are pretty productive. I've been kayaking in to Point Dume, Leo Carillo, and Deer Creek. I've seen a few, but my lack of skill has seriously limited my take

Any hints appreciated!

Re: Kayaking for WSB

Are you asking for specific kayak handling tips, or just tips for hunting after you get in the water?

I can't help with the former, but might be able to be of at least some help with the latter.

In the water - I can handle the kayak, but not myself.

As for advice on WSB - I think your avatar says it all!

Re: Kayaking for WSB

OK, let me try a few things that come to mind, and then maybe someone can expand on them. (It occurs to me that white sea bass hunting should be in the CA forum rather than Reef, but I guess this is where you want it)

Be quiet, on the surface and under water. Don't let your fins splash while swimming on the surface. Make a clean dive with no splashing. Remove your snorkel before you dive. Kick very slowly, or just hold on to kelp above your neutral depth and remain motionless.

Hold your gun so you are ready to take a shot

Most fish are in the top 20 feet of water. Weight so as to be neutral between 15 and 20 feet.

If there is any current, the fish are more likely to be at the up-current end of the kelp bed (unless they are not, of course).

Oops! I had a two hour interruption, and now I have to go on with something else. I'll try to think of some other ideas. Please ask if what I said triggers any questions.
