Trigger malfunction in Wong spearguns???

I know of two people with wong spearguns and both have serious trigger problems but they are different problems. Both wongs are hybrid carbon fiber and one has gone off twice with out alarm i was there to witness this once. the other has a hard time locking the shaft into the trigger.
Has anybody else had trigger problems with wong guns?

No problem with my Wong guns. Like what Pastor said, they should have contacted Daryl or Rick Bettua. Their customer service is top notch.

Re: Trigger malfunction in Wong spearguns???

Certainly you should contact Daryl or Rick immediately. Their service is excellent and they stand behind their guns 100%.

I have seen this problem on other guns, and suggest turning the gun over (handle facing up) and inspect the push-rod that extends from the handle to the actual trigger arm.

Sometimes, due to rough seas or rough handling, the push-rod can come out of the receiver in the trigger arm. This can make it difficult to pull the trigger, and can sometimes prevent the trigger assembly from completely re-arming when the shaft is inserted. This can lead to unintended firing.

On the Wong guns, there is an adjustment screw in front of the trigger. This should be adjusted to provide proper tensioning of the trigger and pushrod. Also, the groove that the push-rod travels in should be inspected and cleaned (perhaps lightly greased with silicone spray) to ensure ease of travel of the push-rod.

Good luck!

Re: Trigger malfunction in Wong spearguns???

Good observation. I didn't want to name names, but of the "other guns" I've seen with trigger malfunctions and unintended firings was one from the mfr. in the posters username.

Is it unreasonable to think that gear has to be maintained properly in order to function properly? One should ask, when was the entire gun and trigger mechanism last cleaned thoroughly and inspected. For example, beach dives (among others) can cause sand/gravel particles to get in places they don't belong. Combined with infrequent cleaning and maintenance, eventually some sort of problem may crop up.

Re: Trigger malfunction in Wong spearguns???

That kind of begs the question, why do you have 16 of their guns if you have such a low opinion of them?

Spaghetti is a compulsive buyer of gear, he has severe problems coming to terms with the fact that the next gun he buys wont have a defective trigger and keeps buying more

Re: Trigger malfunction in Wong spearguns???

I think to be honest though that the invisible versions of the hybrids were never Daryl's best, the Riffe make believe is much better

In all seriousness though, how many malfunctioning Wong triggers have you heard of? Probably none in normal use.

Re: Trigger malfunction in Wong spearguns???

Aloha All,

Riffe hunter, If you could have the owners of the hybrids call me 808.256.5628 I would be happy to check things out. Its strange that almost everyone knows my guns and our Aimrite triggers and hardware come with lifetime warantie's. You would think the hybrid owner would have contacted me about such a serious occurance.
To date we have at least 5000 plus mechanisms out there. This is the first time I or my partner Rick have heard of a trigger firing on its own.

We test each and every trigger mechanism to 600 lbs before it is used in our products or sold on the market. We also test for Maximum strenght up to 1200 lbs. We've heard this about other manufacturers, but until this year we hadn't seen any proof of testing.

We are not saying our triggers are perfect, but we want to hear of any problems or failures so that we can improve on our products in future projects.

So for any of the members out there that have seen a failure or problem with my guns or our Aimrite guns we encourage you to advise those spearos to contact us. I don't make many guns a year so unless hybrids are bought second hand, I know pretty much who has my guns. I try to be as thorough in advising and helping spearos with any of our Aimrite guns or mine. So they all know they are welcome to call and let me know if there are any problems.

I try to make the best speargun within my scope of expertise and hope that spearos are smart enough to contact me or Rick if there are any problems.
Second hand stories are hard to make a diagnosis of the problem.

Aloha,Daryl

Re: Trigger malfunction in Wong spearguns???

I have purchased 7 Wong guns and still have 6 (I lost one). None of the triggers have ever malfunctioned. Many of my friends have Wongs, and none of them have ever reported malfunctions.

But then none of them choose a user name like Riffehunter.
