Dyneema Wishbone online

I’m trying to decide which Dyneema brand/size is the ideal for a wishbone.
Reading through this forum, some opt for a 1.5 mm Dyneema………then it goes all the way up to 3 mm Dyneema ??

Browsing the net did not help much……..So for the experts out here:-
1- What size Dyneema is best for heavy duty spearing (1.5mm, 2 mm, ….3 mm)
2- Which Online Stores carry the Best quality/service.
3- Any special brands to choose.

Thank You
Ihab

Re: Dyneema Wishbone online

Ihab, the most important consideration is the size of the shaft notches. If you have a Riffe-style shark fin shaft, then you can use thick wishbones - I make my own from 1100# Spectra. Those will outlast your band 10 times over. If you are using the Rob Allen-style notched shafts, you should probably stick with with something 2mm or less. 1.75mm is probably best. These won't last as long, but you can tie your bands to allow you to change the wishbone if it gets frayed - check out Home of HammerHead Spearguns to see the style of wishbone I'm talking about.

Re: Dyneema Wishbone online

Thanks Kjflyfish....very useful info indeed.

Actually, I use an RA shaft and a Riffe shark fin style shaft...depnding on conditions........and yes, I recently began tying up the dyneema in this manner...which is Great.

The question is....Where to buy good quality dyneema on line.

Cheers (it's amost time to go hunting)

Do you have a kite surfing school or shop near you? They use dyneema for their lines and often have loads of old bits lying around

Re: Dyneema Wishbone online

I came across this store today selling Dyneema for RA wishbones. Based in Bulgaria - looks like they can sell throughout Europe but have some restrictions on other regions:

Rob Allen 1.8 mm Dyneema, Multifibre 1.8mm (260 kg) (Reasonable price & quantities too).

Rob Allen Wishbone Single Antline

i like yr sense of reasonnable prices!!1.50 euros per meter!!

1st )``RA`` dyneema is not from RA ..it is from a factory that i know and will not tell as it was very difficult for me to find..
2nd )1.8 mm dyneema is not 260 kgs but 200..
as 2.oo mm is220/240kgs
3rd)i pay 0.40 euro to a retail shop in south africa and even less but in quantity at factory..500 meters spools..for the 2mm quality ..but they stopped to produced recently now are only 1.8 mm producing..

that the good prices ..but everyones can pay for what ever he likes .!

If you have a 500m roll kicking around I'd be happy to buy a few metres from you. How much for 10m inc. shipping to the UK?
