Has anyone ever used spectra with a riffe ice pick

Just want to know if anyone has done it, and how it worked out. I will be using another slide ring not the riffe.

Yes but it is more fragile ..as fish bones can cut the spectra if big fight ..

Re: Has anyone ever used spectra with a riffe ice pick

I've used Spectra on tips by Mori, Plamen Kolev, and Bill Kitto, but those were designed for Spectra. I never tried it on a Riffe Ice Pick, but I guess it would could be done. Just as the hollow Spectra goes around the pin in the slot in the side of a Mori tip and then is inserted inside itself and doubled for its entire length, I guess you could pass it around the place where the cable attaches to the Riffe and do the same thing.

I think you would be better off just buying a Mori tip though. Is a far better tip.

If anyone has further interest in rigging tips with Spectra, here is a thread on Spearboard. Sorry I'm not reproducing it here, but I'm lazy. All the photos would have to be shrunk because of the difference in maximum size standard between the two boards.

Seymour,

I have actually re-rigged my Riffe slip tips with Q-line that was left over from stringing my new reel. So far so good.

good luck,

Q Power line isn't hollow, so I know you didn't splice it. What kind of knot did you use?

Re: Has anyone ever used spectra with a riffe ice pick

Bill,
Sorry for the slow reply, but sometimes my yahoo mail will alert me that a new post has come up on a thread that I have subscribed to and some times It does not????

Any way, not sure of the name of the knot but it is one of the very few that I know. I finished it off with a small drop of Gorilla glue to seal the deal. I just could'nt deal with the RIFFE SS cable any longer as it was so long that the slide ring would be pulled all the way to the stock of the the gun and there was still alot of slack in the cable. I am ordering a mori this week from Josh and will keep the Riffe as "PLAN B"

It seems as if the everlasting South Swell is gone, I am not sure if you have been affected but it really has put the crush on my shore dives over the last two weeks. The Vis has been real fickle!!

I hope this message finds you well.

Good luck and thanks,

Joel Beam
