I like a contrast in the handle. What's the thoughts on the skeletal frame, bonding metal to wood?

Re: The DeeperBlue.net Gun Building Extravaganza - Gun Options 6 - Handle Timber Choi

I think you would have to mechanically fix & glue.
There is a technique for bonding ally & wood with epoxy - you need to abrade the ally with an epoxy mix & wet & dry paper & then make the joint. Ally starts to oxidise immediately the abraded surface is exposed to air, this technique is design to avoid gluing the oxidised surface in preference to the pure structural alloy.

Re: The DeeperBlue.net Gun Building Extravaganza - Gun Options 6 - Handle Timber Choi

I went for the Satin or Lime option for no real reason than I like the sound of it.
Wish I could bring more input to the front but speargun design isn’t one of my strong points and like all the polls so far I’ve voted for what I would like to see in my perfect gun which is probably not what many of you would see as the perfect gun.

Re: The DeeperBlue.net Gun Building Extravaganza - Gun Options 6 - Handle Timber Choi

The excitement brimeth over, now 18 votes

Just been looking at the photos of the gun as is. Is there enouvh wood in the offcuts to make a fully customised handle? Would be OK for a universal by the look of it. If the stock was 50mm which and it's been cut into to the tune of 18mm then surely that only leaves 32mm.

Bubinga would be a very nice choice, a beautiful red orange colour mmmmmm

Re: The DeeperBlue.net Gun Building Extravaganza - Gun Options 6 - Handle Timber Choi

I have built many riffle stocks, air gun stocks & target pistol handles, I think the most impressive results have come from multi laminates. Whatever the wood plenty of 2-3mm laminates will look superb.

Re: The DeeperBlue.net Gun Building Extravaganza - Gun Options 6 - Handle Timber Choi

I chose the offcuts option simply because I think that will blend better with the rest of the gun. As Foxy said, I think multi laminations will look good.
I suspect most people won't know what all of those woods look like. I know I don't. I'd know the oak, walnut, satin, and yew but not the other two.
