Help

Hi all, i had some great info on making a neck weight for dynamic this week, only thing is i'm finding it hard to find a cost effective way of buying the lead shot to fill it.

Any ideas on were to buy some from?

Thanks

Re: Help

Those soft weight belts are made of lead shots, but with a coating around them. This makes them excellent for making neckweights. These lead shots won't drain 'toxic juice', as BennyB calls it, after a session. I tried buying lead from places like fishing tackle shops; not worth the money. Too expensive.

Re: Help

Try a gun shop if there is one in England! Lead shot shouldn't be too much if you buy it loose.

Re: Help

Lead shot is available in 7.5kg pots and the last pot I sold was £25.
But as with anything lead the price is or seems to be forever going up.
If you want it now the suppliers will only give price on application.
If you want some I can get you a price on the next shotgun cartridge order I do.
Send me a PM if I can help?

Re: Help

Thanks all, i think i'll go and buy one of those weight belts, i've seen them for sale in my local dive shop (quite cheap) and empty the shot out for my neck weight.

Thanks all......

Re: Help

I forgot that Podge runs a hunting shop! Lots of gunshops here in Canada, wasn't sure about the UK.

Re: Help

I just built one this weekend, 2Kg. Tips:
- try to use a double layer of innertube, a thinner inner, then the outer (my fist attempt was a single, and it split)
- to get 2Kg into a well fitting neckweight you will need to pack the shot well, there is only one way: compressed air. with the tubes closed at one end, 1/2 fill, inflate with the compressor (i guess a bike pump would do) and wiggle and massage the lead down. Repeat two or three fill/inflate/wiggle sessions.
- make it small enough to not fall over you chin when your head is upside down, but loose enough not to pinch your throat with a wetsuit on.
- use the finest lead shot you can find
- use superglue to seal the ends
- use electrical tape to finish the ends
