Carp Shoot!

So, we had ourselves a little carp shoot today in the local lake.

As of Wednesday I had 12-14 people ready to dive, but as of this morning we ended up with a solid group of 5- Sven knows what this is all about.

We saw a LOT of fish when we jumped in, most of which are illegal to spear, so I spent some time in the water with my camera. After playing around for a while we finally started to open up on the carp that we found. Brian and Jurgen did pretty well with the spearguns and I used the time to practice with my polespear. In the end we shot 5 good sized fish and one of the ladies we play underwater hockey with is going to smoke them up and bring them to the bar after the game.

Air temps were in the high 30's and water temps ranged fomthe low 30's to the low 60's- depending on how close to the warmwater pupe we got. It was pretty interesting how close we could get to the panfish in the cold water, almost seemed like they were hibernating on the bottom. They could be gabbed by hand and put back to where they where found with out a fuss, and no they were not dead.

After a couple of hours in the water it was time to head off to a fine local German pub for some hearty food and dark beer(s).

Re: Carp Shoot!

looks and sounds like you had a nice day. I've never eaten carp, is it good? Is smoking the prefered way to cook them?

Re: Carp Shoot!

Nice! You've got some great diving over there. I'm amazed by the Muskies - I never see them around here.
