you need a silicone or water based product such as ky jelly (also good for hayfever sufferers to dab in the nostrils to help catch a bit more pollen before it reaches the lungs).

also, a potato sliced into a point and rubbed around the inside of your mask an hour or so before a dive will stop fogging without scratching up the lenses with toothpaste (i think its something to do with the starch...?)

thats my ten pence worth anyway.
well ive been using the same mask since 2003 and i havent had a problem.

Face masks are typically silicon these days so won't perish like Rubber - to your point Mishu.

Never give your mask to the dog to chew, they always seem to leak afterwards

Re: Tip of the day,

If you have an old bodyboard velcro leash strap, you can use it to strap the spear and line to your pnuematic to keep everything neat, tidy and easy to carry out of the water.

Re: Tip of the day,

Dont drink fizzy pop before you dive, . Fatty foods also build up the stomach acids and can be very uncomfortable and impair your bottom time. Trust me I speak from experiance

Re: Tip of the day,

use johnson's&johnson's baby shampoo after a dive or beach trip to get your hair soft again.

Porridge sounds interesting. I used to eat Weetabix but cannot recommend it as I would often get sea sick in a swell. I think milk might be a problem. Recently I've been making a small cooked breakfast before diving, bacon & egg - although often I don't feel like it, it seems to help & I don't get hungry in the water. I did get suddenly sea sick once recently when I had to swim hard against the current, in a swell coming in; somebody had stuck a large Jordon's granola bag in my hand shortly before diving, which probably did more harm than good.

Also, suggest going to the bathroom before you dive - to avoid having to finish the swim early & in a hurry. (Used to know a student/climber in Sheffield that wouldn't go climbing until he'd been at least twice...to keep his weight down).

Doing 3 or 4 statics while your there helps things along. An unsavoury subject perhaps, but like James, I eat porridge in the morning before diving. It's high in fibre so this is important. Without the statics I find that after the first half hour I need to climb out on rocks and remove the wetsuit.....

Re: Tip of the day,

Breakfast tacos! Bacon, egg, & potatoes on flour tortilla (of course with hot sauce--picante). I also take out carrot & celery sticks to much on whilst resting--moisture & fiber/filling.
